Geronimo Stilton has become the bestselling author in Spain during the last three years according to GfK market research. With a retail sales difference of nearly one million copies, he secured the top spot ahead of Stieg Larsson and Stephenie Meyer.

UK: The Digital Cameras market doom and bloom
Photo industry market research from the UK (January 2011-September 2011 YTD) shows digital still cameras are down by 7%. September 2011 retail sales show that the overall market remained flat on last year with 0% growth. This was helped by a 6% volume increase in the digital SLR segment. Year-on-year, the compact system camera segment (CSC) dropped sales in September 2011, declining by 1%.

Austria: MDA market is back on track
In July/August, the Austrian Major Domestic Appliances industry pulled itself out of the red (value +3%) and posted growth of 2% in the cumulated year 2011. This was after unprecedented negative retail sales in May/June this year.

Romania: Back to school retail sales boost writing instruments market
Romanian stationary industry research from GfK has revealed that the writing instruments market * recorded a year on year value increase of 6% in August – September 2011. Based on tracking figures from cash and carry and hypermarkets, this growth was driven by “last minute” Back to School (BTS) retail sales, with consumers spending more money at the beginning of September.
